Our company flat out needs new topsoil screening machines. No debates. No arguments. The portable gravel screening processing equipment that we have now is just too old, inefficient and we are finding that our ability to compete on new jobs is severely hampered as a result.
Just last week a proposal came across my desk that required us to have a number of gravel screening machines if we had any hope of not only getting the work but making it a profitable venture for the business. Unfortunately buying gravel screening equipment is an investment and we’ve not had the time to set our budget priorities.
With that in mind, I decided to look into new & used screening gravel processing machinery. I began looking at the normal places online and before long was tracking equipment sales and resales at places like ebay.com.
Ironically, after studying the photos of listed items, I realized we would be far better off by simply buying new equipment. The reason? Because a lot of what I was seeing in those sales images told me I was not hearing the full and real story. I could see plainly in some pictures where hoses were just about shot, and hydraulics were going to need overhaul very soon.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackHere here, good job resisting the urge to try to cut budgetary corners by buying used industrial equipment. You won’t have to learn the hard way that an industrial supply company will be able to meet your equipment needs and your bottom line. The money saved buying used scrap from other companies is always outweighed by shorter material life. Always remember that a company looking to sell used equipment is probably trying to get rid of a lemon to salvage some value from their equipment and eliminate indirect storage depreciation and increase storage space. Don’t pay to take someone else’s headache.
In this staggering, wounded economy, I’ve heard that up to half of construction and manufacturing jobs have been wiped out. That’s pretty much unprecedented in modern Western economy.
There is a glut of used industrial and commercial equipment on the market, in auctions etc. You can find incredible selection and value nowadays, so I would keep your options open.
